Eagle Progress

Making slow progress on my eagle painting.  Ready to be done with all of these feathers!

Bug Sketch

Tonight's sketch! Didn't have as much time as I would have liked after work/gym time, but still managed to have some fun with this guy.

Mountains

Adding some mountain studies I did, still got a way to go with these kind of environmental illustrations, but i learned a ton from these paintings!

Quick Sketch

Really need to get back into sketching more in my free time!

Mommy's Little Monster

Combining my love of punk rock and monstrous beasties...what could go wrong?!

Making new stuff finally! Between the new job, new apartment and overload of work, I've been kinda slacking on painting for myself.  Time to focus again!  Im pretty happy with this piece, I really wanted to make something crazy and awesome to print out gigantic and hang in my apartment.  It was a challenge to get it done, and I think it shows a new level of refinement thats been kind of missing in a number of my illustrations.  I'm glad I stuck it out!

Reindeer!

Been busy with holiday stuff, so I've fallen behind on my illustrations. But I doodled a freaky yule-deer! that's gotta count for something...Merry Christmas!!

Windshear Steppe

Today's painting!  Kind of a quickie, going for something more melancholy and airy.

The undercity at Deep Core Alpha

Rough idea was a city on a cliff.  I love factory-things!

More Environments!

During my temporary unemployment here at the end of the year, I'm going to try to get in one painting a day. Its going to be a bit of a challenge!  These two are from Monday and Tuesday,  an alien beastly fountain and a fiery razor-edged cavern I pet named the Fire Maw.

Murkwatch Tower

Looking through my recent posts, I realized I really do stick mainly to character driven concepts.  Time to tackle that elephant in my portfolio and work on some objects and places!  For some reason, its much more challenging for me to conceptualize a space than a character, so hopefully some fun new environment illustrations will force me out of my comfort zone a bit.

The idea here is a crumbling submerged tower, looking a bit like an old seashell stuck in goo.  Something rare and ephemeral (maybe a mermaid?) has made its home in the  base of the old ruin.

Warped Tour Poster

Saw this opportunity and couldn't help myself...another contest, this time to design the poster theme for Warped Tour 2013.  Always my favorite festival of the summer, Warped Tour holds a special place in my heart.  It's another long shot submission, but it would pretty much be the "best day ever" if I win...I've always kind of had this stupid dream of getting my art on a backdrop or stage scrim someday...and I couldn't think of a better venue.

More Poster Madness! The Offspring

I can't help it, I love doing band posters/flyers.  I can't play an instrument worth a damn myself, so I think I compensate with pretty pictures!  This is a fun retro design I put together for a poster contest for The Offspring's new album.  I love Offspring, and I love anything punk rock, so I turned my speakers up LOUD and rocked my way through another design!

Naberius

The Ugly King! Naberius, also called Cerberus.  This is actually my submission for a contest to design a poster for the metal band, "The Devil Wears Prada", which is why the crown has the band logo.  I got really into the painting though, so I wanted to share it alone without the text.  I loved the way the colors came out.  The weakest part is the war hammer, I struggled with that...probably a sign I need to stop being so lazy about designing weapons and armor and work more on my perspective drawing!

Final...ish Design

Well this sketch didn't go quite as planned, but it worked out ok.  At this point though I feel less like its done and more like I'm done with it. I think its time to let this guy fly free and work on something else! Included a version without the flames, because it shows a little more of where I was going with the concept.

Flash Fire Elemental

First time posting a true work in progress...just drew this up tonight before bed and thought it might be worth a more refined sketch.  Concept is a flash fire demon, a forest elemental set ablaze and driven mad by its new fiery existence.  Hopefully I can figure out where I'm going with this sketch and finish it up soon!

Minotaur

Another one! A sizzling demigod to contrast my wispy water beast. I'm having fun with this.  But I think this guy got a bit too complex for my liking.  I should have simplified his shapes more.  Oh well...onward!

Water Dragon

Another vector illustration. Getting better! Really learning how to work with Illustrator to get the designs I want.  An adorable water dragon, much cuter than my last aquatic creature!

Pretty Princess

When I start drawing something like this...I know its time for bed.  Brain, why you no draw monsters?! Broadening my horizons and trying my first vector illustration.  Took way longer than I thought to complete, and its not really done (or that great), I'm just tired!

Hippocampus (aka The Bloop)

A creepy deep sea take on the mythological beast.  Inspired by the unexplained sounds picked up by deep sea microphones in the Pacific Ocean.  Who knows whats out there?

Painting bio-luminescence proved harder than I thought, but I still liked the design.
