Making new stuff finally! Between the new job, new apartment and overload of work, I've been kinda slacking on painting for myself. Time to focus again! Im pretty happy with this piece, I really wanted to make something crazy and awesome to print out gigantic and hang in my apartment. It was a challenge to get it done, and I think it shows a new level of refinement thats been kind of missing in a number of my illustrations. I'm glad I stuck it out!
During my temporary unemployment here at the end of the year, I'm going to try to get in one painting a day. Its going to be a bit of a challenge! These two are from Monday and Tuesday, an alien beastly fountain and a fiery razor-edged cavern I pet named the Fire Maw.
Looking through my recent posts, I realized I really do stick mainly to character driven concepts. Time to tackle that elephant in my portfolio and work on some objects and places! For some reason, its much more challenging for me to conceptualize a space than a character, so hopefully some fun new environment illustrations will force me out of my comfort zone a bit.

The idea here is a crumbling submerged tower, looking a bit like an old seashell stuck in goo. Something rare and ephemeral (maybe a mermaid?) has made its home in the base of the old ruin. Design for commemorative tour poster for Soundgarden. Theme was the title of their newest album, King Animal. Wanted to create something that felt occult and weird, like a dried up idol to a forgotten autumnal deity. If you flip it, it has another face:
Saw this opportunity and couldn't help myself...another contest, this time to design the poster theme for Warped Tour 2013. Always my favorite festival of the summer, Warped Tour holds a special place in my heart. It's another long shot submission, but it would pretty much be the "best day ever" if I win...I've always kind of had this stupid dream of getting my art on a backdrop or stage scrim someday...and I couldn't think of a better venue.Michelle Graveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14998063416677717661noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7906929487833161552.post-20582421183646419472012-10-31T16:35:00.000-07:002012-10-31T16:35:14.832-07:00Stuck

Gonna maybe start posting some animations here too! Study of a horse walking with a fun rig I found on Animation Buffet. I love messing with new rigs, probably its because I never really got over playing with the piles of action figures I crafted epic dramas with as a kid. Now I still get to play, but I can tell everyone I'm working. Model By Hung Vodinh and rig by Joel Anderson.Michelle Graveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14998063416677717661noreply@blogger.com0
